Interview with Constantine Komodromos founder & CEO of Vesselbot

VesselBot

Constantine is a fellow member of the Association of Chartered Certified Accountants (FCCA) UK and has more than 23 years of working experience in several multinational organizations and building startups. He has acquired significant market experience and knowledge of the Logistics industry via collaborations with NASDAQ and NYSE-listed organizations. In 2015, Constantine founded and is since managing VesselBot, a technology company that provides the market with the most accurate GHG Emissions Monitoring System for the main supply chain transportation modes (vessels, airplanes, trucks, and trains). We met with Constanine and talked about Vesselbot and his journey. Here's what he told us.

Tell us a few things about VesselBot. How did it all start and how did you discover the market opportunity for your solution?

VesselBot's journey in sustainability was inspired by a personal realization of the urgent need to address climate change. During a visit to the Parthenon, I was struck by the visible signs of decay caused by pollution, which, combined with news of extreme weather events caused by climate change, highlighted the critical need for action in preserving our planet and its cultural heritage.

We recognized that the logistics industry, particularly global transportation, is a significant contributor to greenhouse gas emissions, yet many companies struggle to accurately measure their Scope 3 emissions. Drawing on our industry experience and leveraging technology, we saw an opportunity to make a real impact by providing the most accurate Supply Chain Sustainability Platform for all transportation modes. Our goal was, and remains, to contribute to more sustainable Supply Chains and help preserve our world for future generations.

How do you differentiate from other similar offers in the market? What value does VesselBot bring to the customers and partners?

At VesselBot, we differentiate ourselves through unparalleled accuracy in emissions calculations across ocean, air, and land transportation. We've developed digital twin models for the entire merchant fleet and all cargo aircraft, while for land transport, we utilize Telematics/ELD data and advanced algorithms. This approach, combined with real-time data on routes, speeds, and weather conditions, allows us to calculate emissions with over 92% accuracy - a level of precision previously unattainable in the industry. We've designed our system to be user-friendly, requiring minimal input from customers, which significantly eases the adoption and use of our platform.

Our Supply Chain Emission Platform provides not just measurements, but actionable insights. We offer market analytics and optimization proposals that empower companies to make strategic decisions balancing environmental impact with operational efficiency and cost savings. Furthermore, our technology supports compliance with emerging regulations like the EU Emissions Trading System, and CSRD, with dedicated reporting dashboards for easy integration of Scope 3 emissions data into ESG reporting processes. This comprehensive approach enables businesses to accurately measure, report, and reduce their emissions, meeting growing demands for sustainable practices while gaining a competitive advantage.

What would you consider to have been (or are) your biggest challenge so far?

Our biggest challenge has been navigating the complexities of data fragmentation and inconsistency in the logistics industry. Many companies rely on outdated methodologies or broad averages that don't reflect the true environmental impact of their specific shipments. Overcoming this required us to develop sophisticated models and integrate multiple data sources, creating comprehensive databases for various transportation modes and developing advanced algorithms.

Another significant challenge has been educating the market about the importance of accurate emissions data. Convincing companies of the value of granular, shipment-specific data has been a process of changing how they think about their environmental impact. Despite these challenges, the industry recognition we've received - including being ranked #1 in Drewry's 2024 Measurement Provider Comparison Guide, named to FreightWaves' 2025 FreightTech 100 List, and acknowledged in multiple Gartner® reports - has validated our product and scientific approach, motivating us to continue innovating. These achievements fuel our determination to reshape the future of sustainable freight operations and make a lasting, positive impact on the industry and our planet.

What are the biggest learnings from your journey so far?

The two most important learnings are:

Create a great team that shares the same vision. If a great team that doesn’t share the company vision is not in place, many things will go wrong,  mainly due to the resilience factor. Not everyone can maintain the necessary resilience for a startup journey. The team needs to find ways to endure, complement each other, and overcome interpersonal challenges to materialize their shared vision. Technical expertise and domain knowledge are important, but what's critical is the team's ability to function as a unified force working toward a common goal.

Resilience, resilience, resilience. Similar to the famous phrase coined by Lord Harold Samuel for the real estate market, "Location, location, location," I believe that resilience is the single most critical factor for success in a company. When inventing a product, developing marketing strategies, and creating a go-to-market approach, nothing is set in stone. Finding the perfect product-market fit and scaling the company through marketing and sales, rarely happens easily or quickly. You need resilience to endure the hardships, find solutions, and maintain momentum despite the psychological rollercoaster that comes with entrepreneurship.

What has been one of the most fulfilling moments in your journey where you felt that your work was truly making a positive impact on the industry or the people involved?

A particularly fulfilling moment came recently when we participated in and won a major RFP for a globally renowned chocolate company. What made this victory especially meaningful was that we were competing against well-established global ERP providers and much larger companies. Successfully convincing a panel of logistics, sustainability, and IT experts about VesselBot's capabilities and our product's value validated our mission and scientific approach.

Adding to this sense of validation, we were recently ranked as the leading emissions measurement provider in Drewry's 2024 Comparison Guide, achieving the highest overall score among the evaluated vendors. Having a respected maritime consultancy like Drewry recognize our technology's superior accuracy and comprehensive capabilities further reinforced that our innovative approach is truly making a difference in helping organizations achieve their sustainability goals while optimizing their operations.
