Interview with Elena Barla & Orsalia Michailidi of Future Brain

future brain

Future brAIn is an AI-driven SaaS platform aimed at helping organisations measure, understand and improve their workplace culture, employee engagement, team dynamics and internal communications. The company was founded by Elena Barla with an engineering background and Orsalia Michailidi an economist. We met with Elena and Orsalia to talk about their business and their personal journey. Here's what they told us.

1, Tell us a bit about Future Brain — how did the idea come about, and what made you realize there was a market need for your solution?

The idea behind future BrAIn was born out of a staggering reality: corporate culture and employee disengagement cost the global economy over $9 trillion every year. Even more striking, 73% of leaders admit they lack the means to cultivate a successful culture.

We were compelled to bridge this gap between leadership perception and the actual culture taking shape inside their organizations. The truth is, every company has a culture—whether they nurture it consciously or not. What’s often missing is the ability to deeply understand and predict how that culture evolves in real time: what strengthens it, what erodes it, and whether it’s propelling the company toward success or failure.

Traditionally, leaders have relied on intuition or outdated annual surveys that fail to capture the real picture or the lived experiences of their people. But in today’s dynamic world of work, culture is no longer static—it’s constantly shifting and needs to be measured continuously.

That’s why at future brAIn, we developed a solution that uses AI and a modern, science-based approach to analyze and predict organizational culture, behavioural patterns and sentiment as they happen. By making the invisible visible in real time, we give leaders the clarity and foresight to build high-trust, high-performance environments where people can thrive and innovation can flourish.

As hybrid and AI-augmented work becomes the new norm, the need for this type of insight is no longer optional—it’s urgent.

2. What sets Future Brain apart from similar solutions in the market? What specific value do you deliver to your customers and partners?

What sets Future BrAIn apart is that we offer a truly end-to-end, AI-powered solution designed to make culture not just observable, but predictable and actionable.
There are three key differentiators:

  • Real-time visibility: Instead of relying on static surveys or lagging indicators, we give leaders continuous, live insights into culture, team dynamics and engagement as they evolve.
  • Predictive analytics: Our platform surfaces early warnings—like burnout, misalignment, or disconnection—before they escalate into bigger issues.
  • Prescriptive recommendations: Beyond highlighting problems, we deliver personalized, data-backed actions leaders can take to strengthen their teams in
  • context.

Because Future BrAIn seamlessly integrates into existing work environments, it transforms culture from an intangible black box into a measurable, manageable, and strategic business asset.

Our customers don’t just get more data—they gain clarity, foresight, and the ability to proactively shape a high-performance culture without the bias and heavy workload of traditional surveys. This is how we help organizations turn culture into a true competitive advantage.

3. What has been your biggest challenge so far — and how did you overcome it, or how are you addressing it?

One of our biggest challenges has been navigating the natural caution many organizations feel when adopting AI, especially in industries where people-related data is involved.

Leaders want to be sure that any AI solution they bring in is transparent, responsible, and genuinely respectful of employee trust. This is a healthy and necessary conversation, and we see it as an opportunity rather than an obstacle.

From day one, we designed future brAIn to be privacy-led by design, with a strong focus on ethical AI use and compliance with the highest data protection standards. We’ve invested in clear, accessible communication about how our platform works, why it’s safe and how it safeguards personal information.

We’ve also partnered with trusted organizations such as Microsoft ISV Success and the Culture Factor Group, and engaged data privacy experts to validate and strengthen our approach.

Ultimately, our commitment to transparency and ethics has been key in building confidence. We believe that trust is the foundation for any successful AI adoption, and we’re proud to help our customers feel informed and secure as they embrace more intelligent, data-driven ways of working.

4. What are the most important lessons you’ve learned along the way?

One of the most important lessons learnt is that no matter how advanced your technology is, success ultimately comes down to people—your team, your customers, and the culture you create around your vision.

Also learned that timing matters - a lot. Even the most innovative ideas need the right moment and the right environment to take root. Being patient and persistent, while staying alert to when the market is ready, is essential.

Another key lesson is that trust and transparency are non-negotiable. Especially when working with AI and personal data, you have to lead with clarity and integrity. Building credibility takes time, but it’s what sustains long-term relationships and adoption.

Finally, bold ideas can come to life when you stay curious, embrace experimentation & feedback and never lose sight of why you started in the first place.

5. From your experience, what are the most common cultural pitfalls you’ve observed in Greek companies, and how do they affect performance, and retention?

One of the biggest challenges we see in the Greek market is underinvestment in culture and leadership development. Many companies have ambitious growth plans but haven’t built the structures that support psychological safety, continuous feedback, and inclusive decision-making.

Another common pitfall is relying too much on intuition or legacy processes when navigating transformation. Especially during rapid scaling or digital change, if companies don’t actively measure and manage their culture, they end up reacting to problems instead of preventing them.

We’ve also noticed that culture is often still seen as a “soft” issue rather than a strategic priority. But the reality is that in this AI-driven era, the companies that combine technology with human empathy, creativity and clear purpose will outperform those that don’t. It's no coincidence that organizational culture is considered a key asset in regions like Northern Europe, the UK and the USA.

These cultural blind spots have a real impact—on engagement, performance, and retention. Talented people will either leave, or worse, stay and become unproductive, slowly eroding trust and engagement.

Our goal with future brAIn is to help businesses, in Greece and beyond, get ahead of this curve: to make culture visible, measurable and a source of strong competitive advantage. We want to help them lead—not follow—this inevitable shift.
